I strongly recommend a Puppy Play pen (I will send some links) to allow NO free roaming. When you are there to watch Him/Her then they can be out with you, but if not then a Pen is a safe zone. If you like to crate, you can always add a crate in the pen, with their bed in it and leave the door open. They can’t hold their bladder long enough now to close the crate door for extended hours. Puppies are like babies and will chew and eat things they shouldn’t. And they are low to the ground but they will find things you don’t know are there.
They will get bored with things and want to explore. Better safe than sorry. If they eat something and create a blockage… it’s a VERY expensive surgery. IF surgery is able to save them.
It will also help a lot with Potty Training. (Like I said They have small bladders and don’t hold it for a while)
Right now they are doing so well on Pee Pads. I have pee pad holders that they are use to, because they have a blast tearing up the pads. I will send you the link to the ones I have.
They are doing great on Royal Canin Puppy (xsmal/petite) I free feed them food and water Which means they have access to it at all times. Day and night. [if your switching their food make sure to mix the purina in over a week with less and less purina so you don’t upset their stomachs.]
This also doesn’t help with potty training. But it makes sure they can eat when they want to, and won’t have any issues with sugar levels. Hypoglycemia is common in small breeds do to their size. Thankfully none of my pups have ever had any low sugar issues. But like a person they will get lethargic, and their head will bobble. They will stumble trying to walk. And I’ve learned with my Tiny baby boy having this issue they can also become stiff and basically only their eyes move…And if this were to ever happen. Catching it quick is key! Karo syrup will perk them up, and bring sugar levels up quickly. Also Nutrical is a calorie booster you can give a pea size amount to them on your finger. It’s a gel. Aswell as if they are not eating… sometimes moving to their new homes is stressful. They are used to having mama around and their litter mates/ other pups, and all familiar scents. So they may not want to eat right away. It is normal. But the nutrical will keep their calories up. I will send a link with that aswell.
-the first week they may also cry at night, they are alone without siblings and Mama, and it’s all new and unfamiliar to them. They will learn it just doesn’t happen overnight. But if you cave and take them out of their pen because they are crying they learn quickly how to get what they want. I promise they won’t cry every night!
They are little, with high energy. But they also need alot of rest. If they are constantly running around… chasing children or other pets; you can risk affecting his/her growing joints and muscles. Till about 6 months old. They will only be 2 months old when you guys pick them up. So make sure this is limited through out the day. With lots of rest in between play times.
They are Dewormed at 2,4,6,8 weeks and get another when they go for their exams from the veterinarian.
They will not pass their fecal exam of their are any signs of worms.
-However some worm eggs or larvae can be dormant in the dog's body and activated only in times of stress.
Like when they move to their new homes.
They will get their first round of vaccinations with me. And you will need to bring their health certificates to your Vet appointment when you take them, (which I advise to be done within the first 72 hours of bringing him/her home incase your vet catches something mine may have missed) so they don’t double dose them and repeat what they’ve already had done.
I also advise taping of the ears, and I’ll be more than happy to send videos of how I do that… to assist with standing. Unless you want to just let them stand on their own (not all do, but most will) shaving the tips of the ears will also help a lot with taking the weight off their ears. All pups will have the tips shaved before leaving me.
When they start to lose their baby teeth in a few months this can also effect their ears.
They will come with their registration paper (AKC, CKC, or APRI) which is very simple to register them under your name online.
Yorkies are very smart, and very stubborn, PATIENCE, REPETITION, PRAISE and TREATS are key to training.
